A wildflower scavenger hunt, anyone?
If you have a park, field, or woods nearby, head out during May and June on a scavenger hunt to see if you can find these flowers. Some will be easy, some a bit harder to find.

May Wildflower Scavenger Hunt
Hint: You will find this flower with its fuzzy yellow head in may lawns and flower beds. It’s actually a plant native to Europe which was brought here by immigrants to grow in gardens.
Hint – This flower stands apart from its leaves on a separate stalk. Its flowers look like lilies. They are often light green on early blooms, turning white later. The seeds a bright red.
Hint – This flower appears later in May. Its light blue flowers with white and yellow center “eyes” make them hard to “forget.”
Hint – Look in wet areas like swamps and pond edges for this tall plant with yellow or purple petals.
Hint – This plant grows as a large shrub with long weeping branches and creamy colored blooms. The leaves are small ovals. It has a sweet fragrance.
Hint – Another name for this wildflower is Yellow Trout Lily. Its leaves are mottled green and burgundy.
Hint – This plant has a soft, sweet fragrance and tiny white flowers. When dried, the flowers may be used to make “May Wine.”
Hint – You may love the fruit of this plant when it is grown in the garden. It is often used in a dessert with shortcakes and whipped cream.
Hint – This flower “by any other name would smell as sweet.”
Hint – The three leaves that surround the three white petals of this plant give it its name.
