The birds are taking over the back forty for good reason – the wild blackberries are ripening. I’m trying my best to collect some, but the early bird gets the blackberry.
We’ll return to the bird theme in a bit. There are other little beautiful things happening in the garden now.
We “lifted” a piece of cardinal flower (Lobelia cardinalis L.) from the wild part of the yard and planted it in a front bed. It is looking great this year, presumably another plant that has enjoyed the heat.
A nostalgic bloom from the uncultivated boundaries of the yard, Queen Anne’s lace (Daucus carota) looks happy in part-shade.
Buddleia davidii shows off its white spikes now. I just noticed that the color theme here is red and white. In fact, those are the colors of the wild and cultivated flowers that are in bloom.
The Tobacco flowers (Nicotiana sylvestris) have grown tall this year, in the bricked corner of the front door border. They are almost five feet now.
