The display gardens at one of our local shopping districts inspired today’s garden post.
It’s been a busy few weeks, and I put off some errands that had to be done – like buying food, for example.
I dread and avoid weekend shopping in the summer. It helped to be heading to one of the prettiest shopping centers around. It’s had various names over the years. Lately, it’s called “Eton.”
Today was a beautiful summer day: the sky a pure blue and the sunshine abundant.
As I walked around Eton, I noticed some spectacular flower displays.
The classic black and white striped awning looks so great in a garden setting. The stone and ironwork are beautiful, too.
A border of repeated plantings of ornamental grass would never have occurred to me. The attraction here is the movement and texture that this bed brings to the plaza.
My photo doesn’t do this display justice. Here we have a cute display of “plants on a stick,” a clever variation on hanging baskets. This is something I’d like to try.
Are you a fan of succulents? I never was big on them, other than sedum ‘Autumn joy.’ But this table top filled with succulents is gorgeous, and a clever way to upcycle an old bistro set.
The giant hibiscus hovered over several beds of white flowers. These blooms are the size of dinner plates.
Last is the best, a miniature village of flowered cottages. Butterflies flitted all around this display. Adorable!
