We’ve had thaws and freezes, rain and snow. The thought of hopping on a flight to somewhere warm is awfully appealing. During those thaws, I stomped out to the compost heap to give it a few pokes.
There are signs of life! Not just in the compost heap, where the steam rises, but also in the beds and borders.
The ceramic pots went up into the garage attic for winter, but the unglazed clay are fine left out, as long as they are emptied. Their warm, orange glow reminds me of warmer days!
I moved some thyme to a bed where horseradish once dominated. It absolutely flourished. Even the dried stems provide some interest in the winter thaw.
Fifty percent of my gardening effort is spent on keeping weeds and grass from sprouting between the bricks. I’ve had little luck. Anyone have a great solution?
Even in shades of gray, white, and brown, there is natural beauty. You just have to be willing to look!
