Do you want to know how to make simple syrup?
It’s, well, simple. And, you can keep it in the fridge for weeks.
It’s a Staple
I would never even think to offer this as a recipe, but I was in the market and saw an eight ounce bottle marked $5. Five dollars!
That’s crazy talk.
I know that this syrup has become popular lately because craft cocktail recipes are popping up everywhere. But, you need to know very little about cooking to make simple syrup.
After you’ve made a batch, let it cool and keep it in a jar in the fridge. It will cost about 20¢ to make.
Many Uses
Use simple syrup to sweeten iced tea, lemonade, cocktails (bourbon sidecar, cucumber-line craft cocktail), homemade sorbet, salad dressings, smoothies, and the like. It will become a kitchen staple.
Simple Syrup
Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
Instructions
- To make the simple syrup, mix 1 c. sugar and 1 c. water in a saucepan. Continue stirring over medium heat until the sugar totally dissolves and the mixture just begins to thicken a bit (it will just be reaching the boiling point). Cool.
