Six On Saturday, 2-10-18: Orchid Mania at the Cleveland Botanical Garden

Feeling a little down, with snow piling up around you? This year’s orchid celebration at the Cleveland Botanical Garden runs through March 11th. It’s sure to take you away to the magical world of tropical temperatures, colors, and fragrances.

Dubbed “Orchid Mania,” the glasshouse and common areas of the building are filled with these gorgeous blooms.  Hundreds of the orchids were donated by Just Add Ice®.  You can find many varieties for sale in the Garden gift shop.

Who knew these beauties come in so many colors, patterns, and sizes?

Personally, I love these patterned varieties that remind me of a leopard’s coat.

These blooms look as though they have faces, straight out of Alice in Wonderland.

You’ll find cafe tables adorned with ultraviolet orchids that glow.

Hope you’ve enjoyed a little respite from February.  See more garden updates from around the world at our host, The Propagator.

  1. Oh, just what the doctor ordered. On a drear and dreich morning it’s a joy to see all those colours. Never mind the soggy little shoots pushing up through the slush, give me flowers!

  2. When I opened the link to your blog, my heart went, oh . . . I thought the yellow & orange flower was a climber, so got ready to look it up & more importantly, add it to my Plants Wanted list. But orchids! O my . . . all so different looking, some like sea creatures, others the more familiar shape & colour. What a wonderful gift to us on this very bleak Saturday. Thanks for the lift.

    1. It was my first time at the annual orchid show. I thought they were gorgeous, but people are commenting that the show can’t hold a candle to past years. Oh, well

  3. Hi Jo

  4. Like a few of you i’m not an orchid fan, but these are stunning. Wonder why so many gardeners don’t like orchids? To me they look like plastic!
