30 Days of Health and Contentment: Day 15

We are halfway to 30 days. How do you feel?

Hopefully, you are spending more time on yourself and on what makes you happy. Today is an aerobic exercise day. 50 minutes, including 40 minutes in your target heart rate zone.

It’s natural to be less active in the winter, but doing so slows down your metabolism. Try to get moving again as you would during the warmer months of the year. Think of ways to be active indoors all day long.

Take the long way to get where you are going, whether at work or at home. Use the upstairs bathroom when you are downstairs, and vice versa. I’ve even read a suggestion to wear wrist and ankle weights around the house while you do chores.

Take a break from sitting on the couch to watch television. Set a timer and pick an activity to do when it goes off. You could jog in place, do jumping jacks, stretch, use an exercise ball, practice yoga moves. Try to increase the time you spend on these activities each week.exercise-ball-486386_640

If you are exercising indoors, make yourself get outside. We know that exercising outdoors includes many health benefits that you miss when you are indoors all of the time. Outdoor activities can be as simple as walking. If you are getting bored, try:

Skiing – downhill or cross country

Hiking hills

In-line or ice skating at a rink

Taking an exercise class with a friend

Power walking at a mall

Playing a dance game on your video console

Sledding (power climb those hills!)

Jogging in place, or using a portable stepper, while watching a favorite movie

Climbing stairs in a museum, library, historic public building

You’ll be ready for summer in no time, and maybe have some fun along the way!
